From our beginnings as a small family business more than 100 years ago, we have grown to become a profitable and innovative company within our specialist field. The company has two main areas of operation: the manufacture of innovative, high tech component parts for use in external prostheses (that are sold worldwide) and the provision of prosthetic and orthotic services, primarily to the NHS.
We have a vacancy for a Materials & Process Engineer to join our dedicated New Product Development (NPD) team. The successful candidate will play an intrinsic role in the development of artificial limbs for the future using their materials and processing knowledge. This will be achieved through active participation in project based teams from concept to implementation. They will find themselves working beside clinical and marketing personnel as well as those from production and R&D. After a short period of training the person will be expected to manage projects and train manufacturing personnel in new processes.
This is a hands-on, demanding position, and will only suit someone who is committed, self-disciplined, and has a passion for development work. A flexible attitude is essential. In return this could be an excellent opportunity for you to develop a rewarding and long term career with the company.
You will be a chartered engineer with an honours degree level qualification (or equivalent), preferably in materials sciences. You must have an understanding of a wide range of modern material manufacturing processes and technologies and have a proven ability in your area of expertise. A broad knowledge of materials, including composites, polymers and metals, is essential. You will also have industrial research experience.
